On September 14, the IRS released a statement warning businesses to beware of “nefarious actors who improperly assist businesses in claiming credits for which they don’t qualify.”
The real issue here is that “promoters” who “help” you file are taking large percentages of the estimated credit UP FRONT. For example, your promoter helps you file for a $75,000 credit, you pay them 25% ($18,750) and the IRS ends up disallowing your claim…You would still be out the $18,750 fee. So make sure your claim is valid!
On the bright side…sort of…the IRS is hiring 3,700 new employees whose main function will be to review audits, mostly of high-income earners, partnerships, large corporations and promoters (especially the ones who are potentially scamming businesses). Many practices are still having trouble hiring one or two medical assistants so I wish them luck 🙂
Just wanted to share in case you feel alone in the seemingly endless wait for your money.
