Don’t Forget to Order the Sausage

Now that I have your attention…

My husband is the ninth of nine children so Thanksgiving is quite a production. At least two BIG turkeys, 25 lbs of potatoes, and stuffing that requires 15 lbs of a type of garlic and cheese sausage only available at a local family owned butcher shop (that requires two weeks notice to prepare).

Guess who is in charge of the mashed potatoes and stuffing… my husband, aka the world’s most handsome procrastinator.

Every year I start reminding him right before Halloween to order the sausage for Thanksgiving, and as I write this on November 7th, the sausage has not been ordered. In his defense I have only said it three times so far and did not put it in writing… A formal calendar invite will be sent shortly. That should do the trick.

Now onto your Pro Tip . . .

This is a reminder to stay organized and take steps to control some of the chaos that is sure to ensue in the office and at home this holiday season.

Make sure you have decided (and recorded in both your EHR as well as your personal calendars) what clinic days will be shortened, when the office will be closed completely and when you need staff to be there (even if you won’t) through the end of the year.

You should also keep an eye out for letters and emails about professional and personal renewals that must be completed, paid for and recorded by the end of the year. For example, my business was established in December of 2011 so before Christmas each year (yes, I have a calendar reminder set as the state of MA is not the best communicator) I have to renew and pay for my LLC as well as complete an audit and pay my liability insurance (for this one I receive numerous reminders starting in late October).

Stay tuned for more end-of-year “to dos” and an update on the sausage order;)
